After placing fifth at Youth Nationals, my dad got a text the same day from the US Adult Speed Climbing National Champion, John Brosler, congratulating me on my performance. I was ecstatic that he congratulated me because he is one of the best speed climbers in the world. He sent the text from Europe while he was competing in an important World Cup speed competition. This was very thoughtful of John because while he was concentrating on his upcoming competition, he took the time to see how I did at Youth Nationals.

John Brosler is the Michael Jordan of American speed climbing. He has the current US speed climbing record of 5.99 seconds set at the 2019 Open Nationals in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is the best speed climber in the United States ever having won numerous youth and adult US national titles, two Pan-American Championships, and graced the podium at multiple Youth World Championships. He competes full-time on the world climbing circuit and has made it to finals in an IFSC World Cup competition. In fact, he has even raced against Reza Alipour who is the current world record holder with a time of 5.48 seconds

I am fortunate to have trained with John for over ten hours earlier in the year. He’s an amazing coach and had a major effect on how I performed at Nationals. I was able train with him because he is an alumni of my youth climbing team, Team Texas. Not only is John a great speed climber, but he’s also a kind and intelligent person. Nationals was a great experience, and John Brosler’s text made it even better.
